Memorial Park

 

Memorial Park is located in the heart of downtown Durand, between 2nd Avenue East and 1st Avenue and only one block off of Main Street. The park is classified as a community park, even though it is only 1.5 acres. Memorial Park provides citizens with an ideal place to rest and relax while they are in the downtown area. Memorial Park has the following amenities:

  • Well-maintained bandshell with restroom facilities
  • Two open picnic shelters with electricity for picnics, family gatherings, etc.
  • Playground equipment including a complex, swings, slides and spring toys
  • 100’ x 150’ asphalt area which serves as basketball court and other activities
  • Horseshoe pits
  • Charcoal grills
  • Potable water supply - from roughly May 15th through the end of September
  • Nearby access to the Chippewa State Bike Trail

Memorial Park is important to Durand because of its history and location. The site of a former school facility, the location provides a "city square" function, which is an important compliment to the downtown area. Because of its history, location and amenities; Memorial Park serves as the City’s premiere venue for hosting several community events throughout the year, including: FunFest (community celebration event held at the beginning of June), Music in the Park (one Wednesday evening a month June, July & August), Blues on the Chippewa (music festivals with national music acts), and Holiday Dazzle Days (holiday event held Saturday following Thanksgiving), not to mention several other events and activities that take advantage of the park’s location and amenities throughout the year.
