Water Rate Increase - Effective Sept. 1, 2025

Per the Public Service Commission decision and approval, the water rates for the City of Durand Water Utility have increased (effective Sept. 1).  The new rates can be found on the attached document.

What to know:

1).  The rates hadn't been increased in many years.  The increase will be used to support the maintenance of equipment and future needs to ensure safe drinking water.

2).  The rates only affect the water utility.

3).  In addition to the increase in water rates, a new Public Fire Protection Fee has been added to all customer's bills.  This fee is used to maintain and support the fire hydrant infrastructure, which will ensure that proper water pressure and functionality is available in the hydrants during an emergency.  This fee DOES NOT support the fire department or its volunteers. NOTE:  In the past, this fee was included as part of the property tax bills.  It will no longer be included in the tax bill.

4).  The first bill will the new rate amounts will be sent at the end of October (for Sept usage) and will be due Nov. 20.
