Fire Department
The Durand Fire Department is a critical service department for the community and surrounding areas. The duties of the department go beyond just responding to fires. They also have these responsibilities:
-
Fire Suppression: The primary role of Durand Fire is to extinguish fires, whether they're in homes, businesses, forests, or vehicles. This involves responding quickly to fires, using specialized equipment like hoses, water tanks, and fire trucks, and deploying firefighters to control and put out flames.
-
Rescue Operations: Our trained firefighters often respond to situations where people are trapped, injured, or in danger due to fires, accidents, or natural disasters. They perform rescues, including extricating people from car accidents and hazardous situations.
-
Emergency Medical Services (EMS): Many of our fire department volunteers also provide emergency medical care, when needed.
-
Fire Prevention and Education: Durand Fire actively works to prevent fires by educating the public on fire safety, conducting fire drills, and inspecting buildings for fire hazards. This includes promoting the proper use of fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, and fire escapes.
-
Hazardous Materials Response: The department is trained to handle hazardous materials (hazmat) incidents. This can involve responding to chemical spills, gas leaks, or other dangerous materials that pose a risk to public safety.
-
Disaster Response: In the event of natural disasters like floods, tornados or severe storms, Durand Fire is crucial for search-and-rescue efforts, providing medical aid, and helping to maintain order during the crisis.
-
Community Outreach: Durand Fire is involved in community outreach programs, helping to build relationships with the public.
Service Area: The City of Durand Fire Department serves the City of Durand and, in conjunction with Durand Rural Fire Department, serves the Towns of Lima, Durand, Canton, Maxville, Peru, Eau Galle, Albany, Frankfort, Waterville and Waubeek.
They are also part of Dunn/Pepin Counties MABAS Division 117 and Buffalo County MABAS Division 148.
