City Clerk

The City of Durand City Clerk is a statutory officer and the official record keeper. The Clerk plays a critical role in local government operations, ensuring compliance with Wisconsin Statutes, supporting the Common Council, and serving as a trusted resource for residents and businesses.

Primary Duties Include:

  • Elections Administration
    Serving as the City’s Chief Election Official under Wis. Stat. Ch. 5–12, the city clerk oversees voter registration, polling place management, election inspectors, absentee voting, canvassing, and election reporting in coordination with the Wisconsin Elections Commission.

  • Official Records & Legal Documents
    The City Clerk maintains custody of all official city records, including ordinances, resolutions, contracts, licenses, and oaths of office, as required by Wis. Stat. § 62.09(11).

  • Common Council & Board Support
    Our City Clerk prepares agendas, publishes meeting notices, attends Common Council and committee meetings, and records and preserves official minutes in compliance with the Open Meetings Law (Wis. Stat. ch. 19, Subch. V).

  • Licensing & Permits
    The City Clerk also administers statutory and local licenses such as alcohol and operator licenses pursuant to Wis. Stat. ch. 125, as well as other licenses assigned by ordinance or resolution.

  • Public Notices & Ordinances
    Responsibilities also include publishing legal notices, ordinances, and resolutions as required by Wis. Stat. ch. 985, ensuring timely and lawful public notice and transparency.

  • Public Records & Open Government
    Acts as the custodian of public records and respond to public records requests in accordance with the Public Records Law (Wis. Stat. ch. 19, Subch. II).

  • Financial & Administrative Duties
    Our City Clerk also handles payroll, utility billing, and serves as Deputy Treasurer under Wis. Stat. § 62.09(12).
